Cost to Plumb a Bathroom by Type of Fixture
A large part of a bathroom remodel is the installation of new fixtures. Larger bathrooms tend to have more fixtures than smaller ones, which accounts for a large bathroom remodel’s higher cost.
Because there is a wide range of fixtures, including material, style, and quality, there is also a wide range of costs associated with installing them:
Fixture | Material Cost | Material + Installation Cost |
---|---|---|
Faucet | $55 – $270 | $235 – $495 |
Sink | $220 – $5500 | $330 – $5,800 |
Toilet | $270 – $3,300 | $360 – $3,700 |
Bidet | $380 – $2,200 | $550 – $2,950 |
Tub | $270 – $1,350 | $1,700 – $3200 |
Shower | $170 – $1,600 | $1,600 – $3,700 |
Plumbing Cost For New Construction
On average, rough-in plumbing costs run between $8,200 and $12,500 for a new construction home that’s around 2,200 square feet with two or three bathrooms. Keep in mind that rough-in plumbing means that the pipework is done, and the pipes are connected to each other and the water pipe main, but there are no sinks, faucets, or toilets installed yet. Once you choose the faucets and fixtures, you can add their cost to your estimate.
In the bathroom, for example, you’ll have to install new fixtures, including bathtubs or showers, sinks, toilets, etc. All this will cost you between $470 and $1,850 per fixture — or approximately $4,200 in total.

Cost to Replumb a House
Replumbing a 1,500-square-foot home costs between $2,750 and $5,030, or $0.70 to $3.00 per linear foot depending on the type of plumbing pipe used. An accurate estimate depends on the number of bathrooms and other areas for plumbing, how far they are from the kitchen, where the laundry room is, and the number of fixtures.
The cost to replumb a house varies widely, depending on many different factors, the biggest two being the size of the building and the plumbing materials used. Most homes older than forty years need to be replumbed because of corroded or cracked plumbing pipes. A bigger house or building will cost more to redo than a smaller building, and a home replumbed with copper pipe will cost more than one replumbed with PEX.
Pipe Material | Cost Per Linear Foot | 2,000 SF Home |
---|---|---|
Install PEX Tubing | $0.70 – $0.90 | $3,600 – $7,600 |
Install Copper Pipe | $4 – $10 | $8,000 – $20,000 |
Replace Galvanized Pipes | — | $4,000 – $18,000 |
Replace Lead and Polybutylene Pipe | — | $3,000 – $18,000 |
Remove Existing Pipes | — | $1,200 – $5,500 |
Replace Water Main | $35 – $56 | $1,200 – $2,800 |
Install Water Main (Meter to Home) | $55 – $170 | $1,900 – $3,400 |
New Plumbing Pipe & Materials Costs
If you want to put new pipes in your home or you’re building a home, there are three types of new plumbing pipes available that are building-code-approved for homes—copper, PEX, and CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride). PEX and CPVC are both plastics and are excellent alternatives to pricey copper piping.
Material | Price Per Linear Foot |
---|---|
Copper, ½” | $2.03 |
Copper, ¾” | $3.75 |
Copper, 1” | $5.04 |
PEX, ½” | $1.30 |
PEX, ¾” | $1.60 |
PEX, ¾” | $1.60 |
CPVC, ½” | $1.40 |
CPVC, ¾” | $2.66 |
CPVC, 1” x 5 ft. | $3.56 |
Gas Line Installation Cost Breakdown
There are many components to running a gas line in a house beyond installing the gas pipe. If you are going from the street in a new gas pipe installation, several different steps and components need to happen, each with its own price. Remember that anything up to meter 1 from the street is the utility company’s responsibility to install. Anything from the meter into the house is the responsibility of your plumber to install. You need to coordinate them both to have a successful gas pipe installation. Below you can see the average prices for connecting an extra 50 feet of line to the main gas line and installing three to four appliances, with new gas lines in three rooms in a 2,000 sq. ft. home.
Project | Average Range (Installed) |
---|---|
Run Line From Main to House | $0 – $1,200 |
Hook Up to Main | $0 – $400 |
Install Meter | $0 – $600 |
Run Lines in House | $1,300 – $1,700 |
Hook Up Appliances | $300 – $450 |
Shut-Off Valves | $250 – $600 |

Gas Line Installation Cost by Number of Appliances
When you run a new gas line for your house, it is typically for more than a single new kitchen appliance. While you can run a short extension off of an existing gas line to fuel a new stove or fireplace, in many instances, you will have a few appliances to warrant an entirely new gas line.
The most common combinations include 1 to 5 gas appliances combined with a water heater. This can be an oven and water heater, an oven with a separate stovetop, a water heater and a fireplace, or any other combination of appliances. The more gas appliances and the farther away they are spaced from one another and the main line, the higher your total costs of the project. For example, having your water heater directly off the kitchen where the oven is installed will be a cheaper installation than having the water heater and the oven on separate floors of the home.
Below are the average costs for installing a new gas line by the number of appliances.
Appliances | Average Cost (Installed) |
---|---|
1 Appliance & Water Heater | $1,350 – $1,800 |
3 Appliances & Water Heater | $1,600 – $2,700 |
5 Appliances & Water Heater | $1,750 – $3,700 |
Copper vs Plastic Refrigerator Water Line
Running a new line to the refrigerator is easy to work. There is already plumbing in the kitchen, so the plumber only has to tap in and split off a new line. Plastic is very less expensive than copper, so the bulk of your costs are in labor. Copper will cost more, but it can last much longer than plastic. Both do a good job in this area. Since the fridge water is not heated, there is no issue using plastic in this space.
Material | Average Costs (Installed) |
---|---|
Plastic | $65 – $120 |
Copper | $100 – $250 |
