Public Works Board provides $2.4 million for emergency construction; paves way for more local infrastructure projects this summer

Washington Public Works Board emergency construction funds will repair two projects in Okanogan County, one in Grant County

At its March 15 meeting in Olympia, Washington, the Washington State Public Works Board (PWB) decided to allocate $2.4 million in emergency construction funds for vital infrastructure upgrades in Grant and Okanogan counties. The funding for each project is split evenly between a grant and a 0.86% low-interest loan.

  • The City of Omak will receive $1 million for replacing a sewer line crossing the Okanogan River. This amount includes $500,000 as a low-interest loan and $500,000 in grant funding.
  • The Town of Winthrop has been awarded $425,000 for the SR20 Methow River Bridge water main replacement. This project was initiated following a freeze last January that damaged an air release valve in the old system. The town’s funding consists of $212,500 as a low-interest loan and $212,500 in grants.
  • Electric City is set to receive $999,680 for the renovation of a decaying sewer main along Banks Lake Reservoir. This includes $499,840 as a low-interest loan and the same amount in grants.

The Public Works Board approved an emergency construction low-interest loan and grant to the Town of Winthrop to help with repairs.

“Infrastructure is key to the health, safety, and vibrancy of communities, and we’re committed to swiftly funding these urgent needs,” stated PWB Chair Kathryn Gardow. “The Washington State Public Works Board is proud to collaborate with local communities and partner agencies, offering both financial support and expertise to sustain our state’s infrastructure.”

Additional Funds Set for Summer Projects

Beyond the emergency funds for these projects, the Board has also decided to augment available funding by $7.3 million for both emergency construction and pre-construction projects. These funds are accessible on an ongoing basis until depleted, with pre-construction awards reviewed quarterly.

Moreover, the board has sanctioned $148 million for construction funding in fiscal year 2025. The application period for this funding starts on April 8, 2024, and ends on June 28, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
