Construction recently began to build a roundabout at 222nd and Q
OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — With more development booming in western Douglas County, comes more road upgrades. Construction recently started to build a roundabout at 222nd and Q.
Plans are underway for a new roundabout at the intersection of 222nd and Q, a decision driven by the Douglas County Engineer’s Office in response to numerous complaints about speeding on Q Street over the years. This roundabout is not only intended to address the speeding concerns but also aims to reduce the heavy traffic congestion in the area.
Local driver Gregg Limley views this as a positive step. “Roundabouts can be really effective in certain areas, especially if everyone respects the right-of-way,” he commented. “They tend to slow down traffic, which is definitely needed around here. Just try driving at the speed limit and see how many cars zoom past you.”

However, not everyone shares Limley’s optimism. Lee Achtemeier, for instance, is skeptical. “The idea just doesn’t seem practical to me. People often don’t stop where they should,” he remarked, highlighting a potential issue with the roundabout’s effectiveness.
The project includes more than just the roundabout; there are also plans to pave 222nd all the way to I Street. The entire undertaking is budgeted at two million dollars, with the roundabout’s construction expected to wrap up in the fall.
