Construction to begin on Idaho Falls City Hall’s first elevator
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) – The City of Idaho Falls is installing the first elevator in its City Hall’s 94-year history.
Ormond Builders is set to start working on the new elevator on the building’s west side starting the week of April 1. While the team is doing their best to keep things smooth for City Hall visitors, the construction means the utility office’s west side entrance will be temporarily closed.
You’ll find signs around City Hall guiding you to the utility office during this time. Also, parking on the west side will be a bit limited. If you’d rather skip the construction area, remember that many utility services are available online at the City of Idaho Falls’ website.

Mayor Rebecca Casper of Idaho Falls emphasized the importance of accessible services. “We’re committed to serving our community, and this new elevator at City Hall is a big step towards making local government more accessible to everyone,” she said.
This elevator is a game changer, especially for people with disabilities or mobility issues. Right now, ADA access is only on the west side, leading just to the utility billing area. The new elevator will make it easier for everyone to reach different departments without having to climb stairs.
Resin Architecture, a local firm known for their work on historical buildings, designed the elevator. They’ve managed to blend the new addition seamlessly with the building’s classic 1929-1930 aesthetic.
Greg Croft from Resin Architecture shared his excitement about the project, highlighting the challenge of adding modern accessibility to a historic structure.
Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the construction is expected to continue throughout most of 2024.
