Milwaukee North Point parking lot construction; sewer system collapse
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County officials provided an update on Tuesday, March 26 on the planned $4.84 million maintenance construction project at the North Point parking lot along N. Lincoln Memorial Drive.
A recent press release announced plans for the extensive renovation of the North Point parking lot, which serves Bradford Beach, the North Point Concession Stand (Moosa’s), and the adjacent lakefront area. Officials have pointed out that the parking lot’s pavement is in dire condition, with a storm sewer system that has collapsed in several spots, leading to localized flooding during heavy rain.
The parking lot has also suffered damage due to historically high water levels in Lake Michigan and wave action, compounded by the shoreline’s deterioration from repeated and severe storms, officials explained.

Milwaukee County Supervisor Sheldon Wasserman shared, “Today we are unveiling a major overhaul of our parking lot, which will transform our lakefront’s appearance. This project isn’t just about fixing the parking lot; we’re addressing the substantial damage along our beachfront.”
Wasserman highlighted the severe erosion along this part of the lakefront, recalling a January 2020 winter storm that caused significant damage, including tearing down large stones and pushing them into the lake, impacting the parking lot.
The renovation will encompass comprehensive parking lot reconstruction, featuring improved parking circulation, new pavement, shoreline protection, enhanced stormwater management with green infrastructure, lighting upgrades, and other necessary utility replacements.
The project’s second phase will focus on refurbishing the walkway extending from the south shore to Bradford Beach.
The parking lot is scheduled for complete closure until May 3, followed by a partial closure from May 4 through July 19 to facilitate these developments.
